Mc Quillan’s V Ruairi Og

Ruairi Og got off to a flying start with points from Aidan Delargy, Brian Delargy and Karl Mc Keegan all inside 7 minutes. Malachy Dallas got Ballycastle off the mark with a free but the Ruairi’s were playing some nice hurling and they stretched their lead to 5 points after scores from Sean Delargy, Paddy Mc Gill and a Shane Mc Naughton free. Malachy Dallas converted a couple of frees for the Town but Cushendall finished the half in some style with further excellent points from Brian Delargy, Donal Mc Naughton and another Shane Mc Naughton free to lead at half time 0-9 to 0-3.

Things continued in the same vain in the second half, Shane Mc Naughton converted a free and moments later Eamon Laverty sent a high ball into the castle danger area and Shane Mc Naughton ghosted in unmarked to crash the ball past Ryan Mc Garry and into the net. Sean Delargy, Conor Carson and Paddy Mc Naughton added further points for Cushendall, Malachy Dallas answered back with his 4th free of the game but it was all one way traffic with Conor Mc Cambridge, Karl Mc Keegan and Conor Carson putting Ruairi Og in an impressive lead of 1-16 to 0-4.

With the game won Cushendall took their foot off the gas and in the closing stages Malachy Dallas gathered a high ball and finished to the net. Kevin Barry Mc Shane and Cormac Donnelly added points to leave the score at the final whistle Ruairi Og 1-16 Mc Quillans 1-6.

How they played: In truth Ruairi Og never had to get out of third gear and a winning margin of 10 points actually flattered Ballycastle who offered no resistance to Cushendall for long periods. In defense Marty Burke, Terry Mc Alister, Neil Mc Manus and Sean Delargy were excellent. Paddy Mc Naughton put in a solid hours work at mid field and up front the forwards as a unit were impressive with Paddy Magill, Brian Dleargy, Shane Mc Naughton and Karl Mc Keegan in particular playing some fantastic hurling but my man of the match goes to Ronan Kearney who produced 3 tremendous saves from point blank range. He was also reliable under the high ball on a wet and windy night which was difficult for a goalkeeper.
